Hello my name is Monica Whitlock, Welcome! I strive to embrace, empower, and uplift clients on their journey into all avenues of wellness. I have over 13 years of experience working with children on up until adults.
My hope for our work together is that you will bring your authentic self, and I will too. Support, relief, and change are all accessible when we engage our real selves in this unique work of counseling.
I have over a decade of experience working in a university setting with a wide range of ages, demographics, and concerns of both undergraduate and graduate students. My interests include life transitions, death and dying, anxiety, vocation, and prenatal or postpartum concerns.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist in DC and VA with a primarily cognitive-behavioral and values-driven approach to treatment. I specialize in a variety of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, trauma, life adjustments, and substance abuse. My previous experiences include working at prisons, psychiatric hospital, primary care clinic, community behavioral health clinic, and VA medical centers. I am also very interested in women's health and aim to support mental health issues that arise across the various stages of life, particularly TTC, fertility challenges, pregnancy, and postpartum.
After recovering from an eating disorder myself, I have a unique understanding and empathy when it comes to working with disordered eating, body-image, and self-esteem issues. I’ve worked with teens and adults in multiple settings. I am a HAES-aligned clinician, meaning that I believe that your personal well-being is more important than a number on a scale.
In addition to eating disorders, I am passionate about working with those struggling with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, adjustment concerns, high school and college students, identity, and more. Whether you are just beginning your therapy journey or are looking for a fresh start with a new clinician, I would consider it a privilege to work with you.
I have spent most of my life helping people be the best versions of themselves, in one capacity or another. As a trauma-responsive counselor, I have several years of professional experience working with adults dealing with a variety of mental health issues (e.g., anxiety, depression, addiction, loss, life transitions, relationship issues, etc.). What is most important to my client is most important to me. I strive to help clients feel safe, heard, and empowered to navigate whatever life handles them.
I am a LPC with experience supporting diverse populations; I currently work with anyone 15 & up and specialize in areas such as anxiety, stress, burnout, depression, anger management, relationship issues, attachment styles, trauma, and bereavement. I work with adolescents, adults, and couples, drawing from various treatment modalities to personalize each client’s experience and meet their unique goals.
Hi there!
I have a desire to support change, advancement, and self-efficacy. My 30+ year background includes working with all populations with specialized areas in crisis, ID/DD, trauma, veterans, and behavior health. Although licensed in professional counseling, I am completing my Ph.D. in Counseling and Psychology.
Whether you're struggling to manage a situational concern or have complications arising from mental health or relational co complexities, l am here to assist you!
