As a first-generation Mexican American and member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I understand the importance of culturally responsive, affirming mental health care. My own healing journey through therapy showed me the power of feeling seen, supported, and understood, and that continues to guide the work I do today.
I’m passionate about helping those seeking change in their lives. My education in multi-cultural counseling and social justice means that I approach each individual with empathy and awareness when it comes to navigating racial and gender identities, and life experiences. I understand we each have our own story and challenges, making the recovery and healing process unique for each of us. I help clients to identify and achieve small-scale, doable goals which build a foundation for lasting change.
I grew up a carpenter’s son and followed his example in my early adulthood. By my mid 20’s I began working with others by teaching guitar, after school sports, yoga, and meditation while continuing to work as a handyman. From 2012-2014 I was fortunate enough to be able to teach High School Psychology classes that included Adolescent Social Psychology, Intro to Psychology, and Positive Psychology. For my practicum in 2012 I spent a year at James Lick High School in East San Jose, CA working with individuals and groups. From 2013-2016 I was a community-based therapist meeting clients in their homes, at their schools, or in the community. I provided individual and family support throughout Santa Clara County. This was an invaluable training that allowed me to see what people would talk about in session, since I would be in their homes with them and often see the issues firsthand. In 2017 I worked at Brightquest Treatment Center in La Mesa, CA. This was an incredible experience. I worked in this residential facility with folks with severe psychiatric disorders that often also involved addiction. The intense nature of the treatment and regular interaction with clients provided a unique learning experience and genuine connections. I learned a great deal from the residential Milieu Therapy approach.
I also had the opportunity to work as a Military Family Life Counselor, supporting military service members and their families. I feel that I learned a lot and, since I was a Navy brat, I derived a great deal of meaning being able to give back to service members in this way.
Since 2018 I have been working in private practice helping children, teens, adults, and families in person and online. I continue to work on my professional development by studying, taking trainings, consulting with colleagues, and working to practice what I learn in a balanced way.
With 8 years of experience as a social worker, I've spent the past 4 years specializing in working with children, particularly in addressing school-related challenges, grief, and trauma treatment. I have extensive experience supporting families through chronic illness and grief/bereavement from my experience in hospice. Additionally, I spent 3 years providing trauma therapy to kids at a local non-profit. Outside of therapy, I enjoy dancing, going on family adventures, beach time, traveling, and playing with my dog.
I am an individual and couples therapist. I specialize working with individuals who have trauma history and want to recover from their past hurts and experiences. I am passionate about interpersonal relationships and how they impact our lives. I love working with couples, taking a direct and collaborative approach to help us get to the root of our relationship problems.
With 16 years of experience in the field, I bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise, realness to my practice including working with individuals, couples, and families. I am passionate about supporting my clients in creating lasting change, whether it’s through improving mental health, deepening personal relationships, or building stronger family connections. My goal is to guide you in finding the clarity, strength, and solutions needed to thrive.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who helps individuals and couples navigate life’s more difficult and complex experiences. I specialize in supporting patients in understanding how past experiences impact present-day challenges, so they can move toward a more fulfilling, authentic, and connected life.
I'm an LCSW and been in private practice since 2019. Most of my experience is in community mental health, supporting symptom management of trauma, depression and anxiety.
