We can move forward, overcome, learn and grow, seeking peace, balance, happiness. I was a NYS Certified School Psychologist for 16 years, and have 7 years of combined supervised and licensed experience as a Mental Health Counselor. I have several degrees in addition to Mental Health Counseling which broadens my perspectives and experience. I was a Training Consultant for Dale Carnegie Training. I also have a Jack Nash Honors MBA, working in foreign exchange capital markets for several years. Counseling however is my calling, my purpose.
Life can be overwhelming, especially when you're navigating anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, or the uncertainty of infertility and perinatal challenges. I offer a grounded, nonjudgmental space where you can show up exactly as you are. Together, we’ll unpack the patterns, stories, and stressors that may be keeping you stuck, and build practical tools to help you feel more confident, connected, and in control.
I work with adults of all ages with a focus on supporting individuals through life transitions: career burnout, relationship shifts, identity changes, and the complexities of becoming (or deciding not to become) a parent.
Recognizing that sometimes life's stressors are too much for an individual to deal with on your own can be difficult, however it displays a foundation of strength and determination. I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor, and I strive for my practice to be a safe, nonjudgmental space for all who seek support and are endeavoring to improve on their self compassion. You are the expert in your own experience, however if we work together I hope to provide a stable, secure energy to our sessions.
I have over 10 years of professional practice experience with working with people. I provide both short- and long-term therapy to children, families, and adults navigating challenging relationships. I meet you where you are and guide you toward the person you would like to be.
Doug Goldschmidt has been practicing psychotherapy since 1997. Before 1997, Doug was first a musician and then a telecommunications economist who worked in South America, Asia, and Ireland to develop innovative communications systems.
He later studied Buddhist psychology, which formed the core of his psychotherapy practice. This was followed by his earning an MSW at NYU in 1997 and extensive training that included certifications in EMDR and Hypnosis.
I’m just a real human helping other real humans do real human things. You deserve a therapist who sees you, your full story—your history, your patterns, your strengths, and the parts of you that are still finding their voice. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in both Virginia and New York, with over 15 years of experience in psychotherapy, behavioral health leadership, and training emerging clinicians. My work blends clinical expertise with a warm, grounded, and deeply human approach.
