I am a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland with over 20 years of experience supporting children, adolescents and young adults. I earned my Masters Degree in Social Work 1997 and have worked across a wide range of settings, including child and adolescent psychiatry.
My work is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a strong focus on helping clients manage anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the effects of trauma. I also have experience with women and older adults, which informs a thoughtful, developmentally sensitive approach to care.
I believe therapy should feel collaborative, supportive and practical. I strive to create a safe, affirming space where clients feel understood and empowered to build skills, confidence and resilience. I primarily work with children ages 6 through young adulthood, partnering with families with helpful to support lasting change.
I have been supporting the emotional and mental health of adolescents and young adults for a decade as a social worker. I specialize in family intervention and working with separated and divorced parents. I love working with parents who want to improve their relationships with their children and also work well with teens and young adults on enhancing self-esteem and finding balance in life.
My name is Averry Cox and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I am a Black and White biracial, neurodivergent AUDHD, bi-sexual, cisgender woman, and I am a single mother. I mention this because with these identities, I experience firsthand the complex messages from society about my worth, value, and place in this world.
As a woman of color and trauma survivor, I understand how limiting and unsafe therapy can feel for those with diverse backgrounds seeking support, honest expression, relatability, and genuine understanding in a non-judgmental environment.
I extend a warm invitation to families, individuals, and couples from all cultures to join me in therapy.
I am a bilingual Colombian-American. I was born and raised right here in Maryland and look forward to serving my local community through therapeutic services. For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about offering myself to help people that may need guidance or support. That internal drive is what fueled my spirit in pursuing a career in the mental health field, where I use my empathy, compassion, and problem-solving skills to help others find balance in their lives.
Welcome! I have been a licensed social worker in the state of Maryland for just over three years. I have worked with clients in outpatient settings since my social work career began. I enjoy working with clients who are experiencing/have experienced symptoms related to generalized anxiety, OCD, and grief/loss. I have primarily worked with the adolescent and young adult populations, but I am open to working with clients of all ages.
As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Therapist and a Christian Life Coach, I believe change is very possible. I have been a part of Atlanta’s professional community for over 28 years. My MS is from Mercer University (a CACREP approved school) with additional experience in intensive marriage and family from Piedmont Hospital. I interned with Kathy Steele, an expert on complex trauma, dissociation, and other related issues. I focus on person centered therapy and solution focused. I offer EMDR and Certified.
