I earned my graduate degree in counseling psychology in 2009 from Northwestern University, and I've primarily helped people with depression and anxiety, substance abuse, and combinations thereof. I’ve also treated schizophrenia, PTSD, bipolar disorder, struggles with work and careers and relationships. As the Roman playwright Terence said, "I am human, and nothing human is alien to me."
Whether it's money, cultural awareness, of therapeutic fit, there can be many barriers with finding the right therapist. One of my biggest goals as a counselor is to break down these obstacles. To meet this end, I implement an intersectional approach as I get to know my clients. Understanding what you need best allows me to provide it.
I am a board-certified registered art therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor. I have worked in non-profit organizations, providing counseling services to young children adolescents, and adults.
Hi! I am Amanda, a seasoned therapist with over a decade of experience dedicated to empowering individuals toward holistic well-being. Stepping into a space with me you will be met with warmth, understanding, curiosity, and zero judgment. I know that starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and my priority is to create a supportive and trusting relationship where you feel safe to be yourself. My approach is a balance of compassion, authenticity, and gentle (but direct) guidance to help you navigate life’s challenges and reconnect with what truly matters to you.
I believe healing happens in the context of safe, attuned relationships. Whether I’m working with a child through play, supporting parents, or helping adults understand their relational patterns, my work is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and collaboration.
I have extensive experience working with children and families, particularly around attachment-related concerns, including families formed through foster care and adoption. I also enjoy working with adults who want to better understand how early relational experiences may still influence their relationships today.
I am trained in the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI), a research-based interview that can help adults explore how early experiences shape the way they connect with others. When appropriate, I can integrate this perspective into our therapy work together.
As a therapist dedicated to inner growth, I offer a space where we can delve into the parts of you that are intriguing and challenging. I draw from EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Attachment-Based approaches, and Mindfulness to support your journey. By integrating these methods, we'll explore the mind-body-spirit connection, and seek to understand the root causes of your struggles as opposed to just managing symptoms.
Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but my goal is to create a safe, collaborative, and supportive space from our very first session—whether you come as an individual or as a couple.
My client-centered, trauma-informed approach means your stories, values, and goals shape the work we do together. I help teens, adults, and couples heal from past trauma, grief, addiction, navigate anxiety and depression, and build stronger, healthier relationships.
As a bilingual therapist (English and Spanish), I’m sensitive to the cultural and relational contexts that shape who you are and how you connect with others.
For clients who desire it, I can also integrate spiritual reflection into therapy, always honoring your level of comfort.
